Committee on Law and Social Action (CLSA)
CLSA
JALSA maintains a weekly “think-tank” of attorneys and others interested in legislative and court issues. That weekly “working” lunch continues the long tradition of the former group, the New England AJCongress’ Commission on Law and Social Action (CLSA).
JALSA continues to bring together volunteer attorneys and public policy advocates to discuss social action, legislative, and legal concerns. It draws together bright minds with different fields of expertise, contributing ideas on how best to deal with the social activist agenda.
Volunteers are always wanted to help write briefs in important cases before state and federal courts. If you would like to volunteer please email Sheila at sheila@jalsa.org with your name, address, email address, telephone, any areas of special interest and/or skills. Volunteers are currently needed to help homeowners avoid foreclosure and renters avoid eviction in situations stemming from the predatory mortgage foreclosure crisis. Our attorneys and paralegals are currently working with Chelsea Collaborative, Greater Boston Legal Services, and have just started new work in the City of Lynn.
JALSA’s attorneys recently received an appreciate award from Chelsea Collaborative for these efforts.
Meetings are on Fridays at 12:30 pm at the JALSA office. Bring your lunch and join an informal discussion at Suite 320, 18 Tremont Street, Boston, MA. Meetings officially last one hour so that you can return to your office in a timely manner.
Remarks of Note:
Recently, Justice Robert Cordy spoke at a JALSA event honoring his former law firm and its chairperson. Justice Cordy’s remarks about the responsibility of lawyers to the community were so parallel to JALSA’s mission, we asked if we could report these on this website. See excerpts from his remarks on November 5, 2009.
